Functional Stool Testing

Functional stool testing reveals the balance of bacteria in your gut and uncovers inflammation, nutrient absorption issues, and root causes of chronic illness.

Functional Stool Testing

Understanding the Microbiome

Your gut is home to more than 100 trillion bacteria—microbial companions that play a vital role in your overall health. This community of bacteria, known as the microbiome, works in harmony with your body to support digestion, immunity, and much more.

The types of bacteria that make up your microbiome are extremely important. A balanced microbiome helps:

  • Break down and digest the foods you eat
  • Neutralize harmful toxins
  • Convert nutrients into forms your body can use

But the microbiome’s influence extends far beyond digestion. Ongoing research continues to reveal the deep connection between gut health and other vital systems in the body—including the immune system, mood, and hormones. When the microbiome becomes unbalanced, it can disrupt many aspects of health and contribute to chronic conditions.

The Gut as the Root of Health

An unhealthy microbiome is often one of the root causes of chronic disease. As Hippocrates once said, “All disease begins in the gut.” Today, science is proving those words true. That’s why in Functional Medicine, treatment often begins by restoring gut health.

Why Functional Stool Testing Matters

The best way to know if your microbiome is healthy? Test it.

Functional stool analysis provides an in-depth look at your gastrointestinal (GI) health. This type of testing measures beneficial bacteria, identifies potential triggers of inflammation, and highlights imbalances that may be impacting your body’s function.

Through stool testing, practitioners gain valuable insights into:

  • The diversity and balance of beneficial bacteria
  • Inflammation markers and immune system activity
  • Your ability to break down and absorb nutrients
  • Early signs of imbalance that may lead to chronic illness

These results allow for a personalized, precise plan to improve gut function and support systemic health. By identifying and addressing imbalances early, functional stool testing can play a key role in restoring wellness from the inside out.

At Shine Functional Health, this testing serves as a cornerstone in understanding and optimizing your digestive and whole-body health. To learn more or begin your gut health journey, connect with Dr. Alison Lechner today.

Shine Functional Health has chosen to use the GI-MAP and the BiomeFx tests. Both of these tests are performed by highly rated laboratories and provide key information on gut health. Dr. Lechner will help you decide which test is right for you.

  • Skin Disorders- acne, eczema, psoriasis
  • Mood disorders- depression, anxiety
